You are almost right Wink but also quite wrong... Wink
I also though Krita was limited in layers... in fact their system is just different and brilliant, with a hierarchical masking and effects, maybe a few effects less.
The point where you are completely right though is that its an artsy drawing/painting/illustrator dream machine. Easier to user than he competition.
I won't go on 'coz I already overstepped the thread's subject and I'll get slammed for thread-hijacking. Wink ....*runs away*.

Cheerios!

My one real concern with anything based on Ubu 18.04 is going to be the new "data collection" feature.  Presumably can be disabled in the installer, but it's on by default.

Can anyone expand on this worrying point: "anything based on Ubu 18.04 is going to be the new "data collection" feature" !!
Where can we find more info - links to sources?

If LL is in danger of becoming part of a stasi-like operation (and I'm not saying it is) then, as the saying goes, "I'm outta here".

Let me put it this way, if LL starts data collecting, I'm outta here. It's 'not on by default' because it's not even on, PERIOD.

Thanks Jerry - that looks pretty definite! Smile
I do recall your post (ages ago) where you said you take just a bare 40mb (whatever the tech terms are) from Canonical and build LL on that, so presumably you can surgically remove any such data-collection code which might be in there in the future.

That's exactly what I do.

That data collection thing is over blown anyway. It's opt-in so if you don't want to send info, it won't. People should really only complain about it if it was hardcoded and/or hidden and there was no way out of it.

Back to LL 4.0 suggestions...

1) could something be done towards external monitor plug-play? With MS Win 7 (and presumably 10) we can grab our laptops, unplug, everything is auto-reset to built-in display. Ditto when we re-connect to ext. monitor.

2) there's some discussion above re what to provide by default in LL download.

I wonder could thoughts turn to a menu of downloads, eg starting with "Light Linux Lite" for the basic home user - browser / email / photo manage / Writer / Calc / (there's more in LibreOffice, but buttons the for latter two) Backup / Updates / (other?) - these given with large icons/"button" on desktop. Might attract first computer users too, attractive for teachers in communities etc.

Of course all the repo/Lite software will be accessible too, if wanted later.

Maybe not for 4.0, but future?

I tried v4.0 beta . I cannot install systemback. I find it useful and simple to create live cd
Please put it back. The new version is useless to me. Thanks

The maker of SystemBack has discontinued "* DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT ENDED *"
https://launchpad.net/systemback
https://launchpad.net/~nemh/+archive/ubuntu/systemback

You can find threads within in the forum... It was a really useful tool... Timeshift replaces Systemback functionality in LL4.x

Thread closed for suggestions. Thank you to everyone who came up with ideas!

Suggestions that made it in:

- KeepPassXC (Lite Software)
- HandBrake (Lite Software)
- Move ~/.conky folder - now in /etc/conky-lite for easy update/bug fixes
- Make a very simple edit to an image for the first time e.g. simple rotation, crop or resize - Shotwell is the new image viewer
- Replace the startup Boot Splash screen - Done
- Faenza icons replaced with Papirus

Thanks folks Smile
