Re: Updates - smhardesty - 06-10-2020

Well, it seems that pretty much nobody here has any idea of what a 10 key is. Apparently you are all MUCH younger than I am. I say down in front of my first computer in 1976. There were periods of time I used a 10 key explicitly for data entry. If you don't know what a 10 key is, just read this Wiki:

[member=6982]smhardesty[/member] Data entry folks may refer to it as 10 key... I've heard it called the number pad - number pad thingy, calculator pad and the alike - some call it correctly for its duty.
Then other languages will call it something else --- but that another thread...

So you're installing LL4.8 for the 1st time... After installing LL4.8 you never had "Install Updates" - What happens when you Open Lite Welcome and try update?
You haven't done anything else to this system beyond installing?
- What was the process - from acquiring the ISO - Live creation - Install Process etc etc etc...

Then I look at the screenshots... Closer..
I have 4.8 still, I have mostly default.... My Libre and Leafpad are labeled different than yours.. hhmmmm
- Did you download from the LL download page and check MD5?

You tested other distro's, did you completely remove any OS data or a clean partition?... Are you sharing "/home" among multiple OS's or reusing "/home" that was in use from another distro..
*is "/home" on its own partition?

You may be having contention with files... ??? .....

How did you partition your system?

LOL ok I (ohjrson) too say  Data entry folks may refer to it as 10 key... I've heard it called the number pad - number pad thingy, calculator pad and the alike - some call it correctly for its duty.
Then other languages will call it something else, agreed that is another thread. I do have this 10 key pad on all of my keyboards and on every install I have no issues using it and in some cases it improves it depending on the model.

I also agree with this:
You may be having contention with files... ??? .....

However, I still have not heard if you have tried the new release yet.

smhardesty:

I did a fresh install of LL 5.0 on my system on June 4, 2020. It definitely will gives me a list of various "Lite" software by typing Lite into the menu's search area.

It also puts an orange Update button in the Notification Area. I can click it to set my preference for how often I want it to check for updates, and also click Install updates from that button when updates are available, if I didn't do it when a notification popped up.

I also have a numeric or number keypad (10 key, as you call it) on my keyboard. I use it all the time to enter numbers. I also can use the extra Enter key on the keypad to press Enter, with my thumb, if my hand is on my mouse. That saves me having to move my hand over to the regular Enter key, since my mouse hand is very near to the edge of the keyboard, where the keypad is.

I also installed LL 5 in a Gnome Boxes virtual machine today, and everything in that installation is the same as I've described above here.

It sounds to me that you have some kind of problem with your installation.

Re: Updates - Artim - 06-19-2020

"Ralphy" no longer writes or maintains software for Linux Lite. Real life has intruded on his time so much now that he's not coding much at all anymore. The ability to selectively update Linux Lite is still possible, but not as "user friendly" as Ralphy's old (now abandoned) Mint-based updater.
