Linux Lite Newb Here - Blackfish - 02-15-2016 Howdy from Thailand! I have been using Linux for about two years. I have an old machine (Dell Latitude E5500) which I run Puppy Linux Tahr Pup and SLACKO64 as my main operating systems. That is about to change. I need something with full BASH, something a little more robust than Puppy for doing certain things, like running a better text editor, for one example. Though I will always use Puppy at least in the background. I am a minimalist Linux distro user--all the way. Meantime I have Linux Lite installed to my USB stick. I will be using it this way for a while until I am used to it. One thing I have found that I do not like so far is that after installation I find that my calendar and the strftime configuration I use in Geany is being displayed in Thai. I am sure this is coming from the fact that I am in Thailand and the time and date are being fed to the computer in Thai. I know it doesn't have to be this way, but I do not know how to change it. Any ideas? Any help would be sincerely appreciated. All that being said, I have to say I absolutely love this distro! It runs wonderfully on my system and it had pretty much everything I needed to start work right out of the box. Glad to be here! Thank you! Re: Linux Lite Newb Here - Blackfish - 02-19-2016 Thanks for the tips and the welcome! I have to wonder however why I am forbidden to post new topics on the board. Every time I try it I get the forbidden message. Oh, well. Anyway, the topic which I wanted to ask about was text/HTML editors... Which text/HTML editors are people using and getting great results? I started with open source two years ago and have been using Geany ever since. It came installed by default with a favorite Puppy Linux distro and I started using it just because it was there. Always on the lookout for better tools to get the job done! Anyone? There are several HTML/text editors available in Install/Remove Software (Synaptic Package Manager) found at Menu>System>Install/Remove Software. Geany is also available to install, it is my own choice of editors. |
