Can't Drop File Into Recycle Bin - TimeTravel - 06-11-2018

Had a chance to install LL4.0 today.

I like having the Recycle Bin icon showing on my desktop to drag files there to delete.

When trying to drag a file into the Recycle Bin, a blue + sign shows when the file is on top of the Recycle Bin, but when I let go, a Trash- File Manager opens,  but the file I want to delete doesn't get placed in the Recycle Bin.

[member=7651]TimeTravel[/member]  You're right, I had not tried that before, but dragging a file and dropping on the Recycle Bin does not put the file in the trash. And that is behavior a Windows user would expect.
I did right-click the file and choose "Move to Trash." Then I opened the Recycle Bin (double-clicked the desktop icon) and saw the file in there. But it looks like drag-and-drop trash is not a function of the desktop icon.

They are Desktop shortcuts only, as a set. During testing, I couldn't come up with any workable code that allowed us to mimic the Windows expected effect. In the end, the decision was made to include it anyway to complete the overall look.

Thanks for trying.  I'll just have to use the right-click method that you described to place things in the trash.

Thanks for the clarification about the trash icon only as a Desktop shortcut icon in LL4.0.  Looks like I'll have to unlearn the habit of drag and dropping to the trash can  8).

[member=2]Jerry[/member]  The code for the drag 'n' drop effect is already built in to xfce.

[member=7651]TimeTravel[/member] , [member=5059]whateverthing[/member]

To enable the drag 'n' drop feature :
        1) Right-click on any space on the desktop and choose Desktop Settings
        2) There are 3 tab headings, Background, Menus and Icons, click on the Icons Tab
        3) At the bottom of the Icons Tab is a heading Default Icons and below that is a scroll box with items and tick boxes.
        4) Ticking/Unticking the boxes will enable/disable default xfce desktop icons.
        5) Enabling the Home and Wastebasket items will produce 2 new icons on the Desktop. The Home icon can replace the default LL User Files shortcut while the Wastebasket appears as Rubbish Bin .

This Rubbish Bin acts as you would expect, files/folders can be dragged 'n' dropped to this icon.
Opening the Rubbish Bin folder and right-clicking on any of it's contents brings up a menu from which the items can be deleted or restored.
Try it out, when satisfied just delete the default LL icons or untick the ones you don't want Smile

        Hope this helps.

Lol, was not meant as a criticism of yourself or the team. Anyone that can build an OS using customised bash scripts has my respect. Smile
Hopefully this will help those that want/need the drag'n'drop facility Smile
