What does this mean? - Abw - 10-06-2019

Trying to update and cant. This message appears...

Reading package lists...
E: The repository 'http://mirror.unlockforus.com/linuxlite diamond Release' no longer has a Release file.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is it a glitch?

thanks

That mirror should still be up, according to a message I received - "I will be shutting down the mirror on November 1st; that's a month from now." Mirror owner - [member=6629]ralphy[/member]

In the meantime, please change to another mirror with Lite Sources, best to use the DEFAULT one (Linux Lite).

Hi Abw, I had been running that mirror and it is now shutdown, sorry. Unfortunately, I needed to put its resources into different use and couldn't afford to keep it running. Switch to a different LinuxLite mirror and you'll be fine.

If you're interested in supporting LinuxLite by running your own mirror for example, I recommend BuyVM which is the VPS provider I used. They offer good dedicated "slices" (which is how they call it) and even Anycast with presence in 3 different geographic locations... a 6 Core CPU and 24GB RAM is a little powerhouse "slice" to host a decent mirror; my logs showed 10,671 clients being served before I took it offline. Smaller slices will also work as long as it can keep up with the number of clients connecting to the mirror and it can be upgraded in case needed.

It was a good ride and I'm happy to have given back to the community. I'm willing to help anyone setup a mirror in my spare time if interested for the benefit of many.

Cheers!

And thank you, [member=6629]ralphy[/member] for running a reliable mirror for all this time!
