Lite Updates change - Valtam - 08-02-2024 The Lite Software package that contains Lite Updates has a new version of Lite Updates. We're now using Yad instead of Zenity. This will put to an end blank windows and other reported bugs. We hope that you like it. Sent from my Mobile phone using Tapatalk RE: Lite Updates change - Şerban S. - 08-02-2024 Hi! Tested some of the Lite Apps. (Lite Updates, Lite System Report, Lite Tweaks) All work fine, including Lite Updates. I also updated the system: had 157 packages. All went well, nothing unusual happened. I also tested the YAD sample code for System Report. Looks great! Difficult to distinguish between the two, though. Should I run them CLI? I used the common graphic method (which bypasses stdout). The update list is long, because I still use LL 6.6 for now, for daily use. There are many tasks i need to perform in order to move entirely on LL 7.0. It is about rethinking the whole archive structure, in order to be able to restore partitions very fast and reliable. Further more, I need to find a way to setup all needed packages for PRO-audio in a more automated way (some bash things). Thanks for the update! RE: Lite Updates change - Valtam - 08-03-2024 Should I run them CLI? - prefer you didn't unless debugging. 7x got the new Install Updates with Yad, unless there is an urgent bug, previous Series do not get Lite application updates. Since everything works fine, i hope this is it! I assume you want to move to the next App and see what happens. As for the previous series, I assume only critical (security) updates are to be expected. And since LL 7.0 works fine even on 2011 machines, people should give it a try. We're (still... ![]() Because I installed it already on two machines (Sony VAIO, 2011 and ASUS X200MA, 2014) I am confident that leaving the old versions for the LL 7.0 will work OK. The only "caveat" -- so to speak -- would be that a SSD is highly recommended. Further more, something tells me that LL 8.x will still work on ASUS X200MA. Hence, on any similar configuration. Best regards, Șerban. Lite Updates change - Valtam - 08-04-2024 You can always test with a live USB first. I'm not very found of live USB runs. I'm rather the "Real Deal" guy. I usually skip the "Launch Live..." and move directly to "Install...". Assuming I want to see a new distro, that might make sense. Otherwise, I skip the live test. Even so, I'd rather go on the path of a VirtualBox test. I remember testing LL 7.0 RC1 on a VBox with 1 CPU and 4 GB RAM config. I don't have anymore a 1 CPU/1 Core machine, but it's good to know if it still works. Besides, i have at hand the DeLock 47230 which allows me using alternately 2 x 2.5 drives. That makes the installation process more easy since there is nothing to break. Any HDD will do better than any USB stick, except maybe for a fast SD card. Theoretically, if I have 10 drives available, I can make 10 different flavors either of Linux Lite or any other system. As for the amount of time, given the large number of installations I've already done, I find it more useful and is fast enough. Except for the very old machines, where the resources push the installation somewhere beyond 40 minutes (which is still fast enough!), in about 30 minutes I can test whatever piece of software on a real installation. I usually pay attention on the RAM consumption and the CPU%. Depending on the destination of the machine, I also watch for the GPU load. This kind of info, is pretty useless on a live run. RE: Lite Updates change - trinidad - 08-11-2024 Available update window did not populate though updates still worked. I waited quite a while. https://dbts-analytics.com/upddtwind7.html TC RE: Lite Updates change - Şerban S. - 08-11-2024 (08-11-2024, 02:11 PM)trinidad Wrote: Available update window did not populate though updates still worked. Have you tried a lighter theme to test? RE: Lite Updates change - Şerban S. - 08-12-2024 Hi, everyone! I just tested the Lite Updates new App. To make the story short, here is the result: |
