Brave install - fj3 - 02-20-2025

Hello, I am new to linux so decided to try Linuxlite. I am trying to install Brave browser but have not been able to figure out a way to succesfully do so. I am using a USB drive with 20gb persistant storage on a laptop, safe boot on the bios in laptop is disabled. I have been troubleshooting with the AI system on LinuxLite website for several hours and it just seems to produce an endless amount of errors. The AI will have me run command lines in terminal to fix an error, and in the process of attempting to fix that error, another error appears and then attempt to fix the next one--- basically endlessly.

The "preinstalled" chrome browser doesn't launch, but I am able to install the firefox browser from the Litesoftware welcome page. For the brave I used the single command line install (curl -fsS https://dl.brave.com/install.sh | sh) and also the command lines they list for debian/ubuntu/mint with similar results. I am not a tech expert by any means but I can do the basic command lines and # out the lines that are recommended to be disabled, etc.

What am I missing? Or do I just need a different distro?

Welcome. Sorry to hear you are having problems installing brave, but with the information provided it's only possible to guess at what is happening.  We'll probably need to see the actual errors before being able to suggest anything (unless someone happens to have experienced the same issue).

There was a reported issue starting chrome from Live media in Linux Lite versions 7.0 and 7.2.
There is a workaround for 7.0 and 7.2 and a fix is expected in 7.4.
Perhaps the issue with launching chrome from your persistant install is related to the Live media launch problem. If you try opening a terminal and starting chrome with this command...
Code:
google-chrome-stable
..the terminal will show what's happening. It will almost certainly report some errors even if chrome starts ok, but if you see a Fatal error post it back.
