[SOLVED] Key Binding
#1
Hi.

My backspace key on my keyboard is dead. Totally. I had problem with it before but after many quick fixes that I did to this key, now its dead.

Quote:RIP beloved backspace key

Before that, when it was still working I used xmodmap for binding other keys to different places.
But now, because its dead, I cant bind it to "delete" key(its near backspace and I dont use it anyway), because when you bind it, you need to press both keys to get their ID's...

So I'm screwed a bit... If you dont believe me, try not to use "backspace" for one day :]

Its damn hard to find keyboard for my netbook model, and those that I found have price made by some stoned junkies that have no idea what they selling, so I need to find way to bind backspace to different key on my keyboard.

Any idea how can I make it?
Maybe there is app/command that have universal ID's for every keys?

Ok I spend sometime with few apps for binding... and it turn out that xmodmap that I used before have command to see every keycode -_-

Sorry for this post, I should check those commands before...

You could try opening up the keyboard (first unplug it) and use air gun to clean the electronic part and soap+water to clean the plastic cover.  Maybe you have interfering gunk causing your backspace key to not work.

Hello!

As a rule, netbook keyboards cannot be disassembled for cleaning. I would recommend having a replacement on hand before you try.

I tried cleaning one somebody spilled Coke into once. No go. Had to replace the keyboard.

If quality is an issue, you may want to consider a small USB keyboard you can plug into the netbook if you lose too many more keys...

A gun in your hand is worth more than a whole police force on the phone.
