tried also sparkylinux that is a debian withut any problems...

u wrote "I have just tested 32/64bit Linux Lite Live USB stick boots from USB3 on my HP Laptop."

and ? both working? if yes...then i think u are right about the usb3 controller

Yes, USB3 is fine.
