Here's my completely without shame, verbatim rip-off of someone else's answer on another forum.

You can set the transparency 0 to 100 in ~/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-XXX.rc
menu-opacity=100

Have fun. Smile

You have to enable display compositing in windows manager tweaks before you can use transparency.

Menu>Settings>Window Manager Tweaks,  then click on the Compositor tab and click the check box to enable compositing.

Hope that helps.

I think there is a slider in the latest whisker menu settings. Right click on the Menu button then properties and look it up.
Edit
Oh yeah, you need to enable compositing to as avj says.

I get the whole thing transparent.  Wouldn't mind having the task bar transparent (other than the icons, of course).

I think the new menu has that slider avail in the properties menu

right click the whiskers menu icon select properties. You should see a slider bar.
