Which it is or I wouldn't be posting..I have used sudo apt-get update, but am curious to know the solution to this

Are you dual booting with Windows or Debian?

No it's a fresh install of LIte 4 only...it's a laptop (with Optimius Prime which can cause problems with Nvidia though I doubt that has any thing to do with this) and  am connecting by Wifi, quite successfully for everything except the 'Intsall Update'
