Speaking of DistroWatch, having given their rankings a brief glance, I do not think it is the greatest point of reference for picking up an OS to use. Not because I am using Linux Lite and think everyone should do the same. Infact, I encourage people to do the exploration on their own behalf. Perhaps then we could confront our observations eventually, if to maintain constructive thinking. But some of the options pointed by DistroWatch as the most popular, do not really seem to myself as being generated by spontaneous popularity among the casual audience. Unless there is no 'casual audience' in Linux.

According to what I've read on the web, Distrowatch's distro ranking system is based on clicks; that is, how many clicks a distro's link gets on their page. If you go to DW, have a look at the list, click on any distro name, then click to the distro's page from within DW site, that click is being counted by their system, they don't know if you actually downloaded, installed and are using it, just that you clicked that distro's name on their page, so I agree with you to some extent that it doesn't reflect which distro is the most used, noticed that I wrote "used" not popular, since at least in DW "popular" means most clicked however, having a look at DW does give people some reference and reading through the comments helps too.

However, I do visit DW quite regularly, despite the dubious, unreliable, uncertain accuracy it may or may not have regarding the "popularity" of X distro, which frankly, I think it's irrelevant in terms of user's expectations and/or experience, that being said, they do provide a good service to the community by offering all that info in one single place, that alone is enough to say "thank you DW" whether you trust or not their ranking system is another story, but their contribution to the Linux world is undeniable.

People that write such messages, I can only assume thy have their own payload of problems. The worst of them are just rotten inside and is nothing to mind about at all. If they can't figure things out themself, it seem to always be somebody other faults.

Ouch! Had a good laugh at that one and the previous ones in this thread xD. Love how it is in all caps. And my gosh does the 'ILL HAVE MORE. . .' sound so threatening lol. Let's just say that name-calling a developer is not a step closer to getting issues solved. (especially someone who is donating their time & money for a greater cause, thank you LL team!)

I wonder if they would say the same things to you in that email, face-to-face or a phone call. I wonderrrrrrr . . .

Many thanks Sprintdriver - I really enjoyed listening to Joe Collins' video.
However, the Windows poweruser who had the message of complaint about Linux was rather more polite.  Joe Collins has a very soothing/relaxing delivery - a good antidote for those feeling frustrated with Linux. Really enjoyed many of his comments. His observation that the group that's hardest to teach Linux to is Windows powerusers was really interesting.

[member=2]Jerry[/member], I think these people may have valid opinions, but they do not just one, but two things wrong, which nonetheless - if properly taken out of they way - could give you a glimpse of proper feedback on the project. First thing done wrong is the way the opinion is being expressed. Aggression leads nowhere in terms of constructivism, especially if not met with any likewise attitude on the other side of communication channel. To myself, it is fully excusable to simply leave aggressive 'participants' without any answer whatsoever. Other thing done wrong, is that they do not have proper details on the actual topic, typically blaming you - the distro assembler - with faults of particular software pieces, which the author of, nor the maintainer, you are not - for the better or worse. Therefore, trolls typically would misattribute or misaddress their 'feedback', because why do their homework, if they simply can hate. Having this in mind, you can still see something of meaning even in the troll rambling.
