What *I* gleaned from the article you referenced is that no one can really say how it will all play out - least of all, M$. Both of them go all over the place.
They even mention it possibly becoming open-source at some point - which is what they should have done with XP. In a nutshell, it's free until they no longer say it is.
To the extent that it may affect the future of Linux, it IS relevant. Nonetheless, we'll change the subject anyway...
