Jerry,
It's probably academic (since I think I may have one of the few computers on which LL cannot be installed) but I've just realised that I failed to answer your post. So :-
1. Burned ISOs for both LL2.4 and 2.6. Verified the MD5SUM and everything seems to be OK with the disks.
2. Tried to run each separate disk from the attached Medion DVD drive (the built-in drive on the HP Slimline Pavillion has been dead for months) and each attempt reached precisely the same stage before hanging - viz:-
a). Disk booted to the live desktop (needed to adjust the resolution to see it fully) ; checked out some of the settings - e.g. wireless connection, mouse, keyboard, etc and all responding OK.
b). Back to live desktop and double-clicked the application ico to run the installation.
c). First item on the wizard was the welcome screen showing languages menu with English already highlighted; clicked "Continue" button.
d). Next screen gave options to download updates, etc whilst installing. Did not check either option box and clicked "Continue" button.
e). From that point, the small circular timer ball started spinning.....and...on...and on.... etc. I let it run each time for about an hour till it was obviously a no-go and then aborted.
I don't know if any of the foregoing will be of use to anyone else but, there you have it.
Many thanks to all for your efforts.
