Can't follow install prompts

I did check and can confirm that my hard disk is NTFS. I'm still not sure whether or not that is relevant but it's probably a moot point now.

I did eventually get my system to recognise and boot from a usb (some fiddling around in the BIOS with the Boot System Priority function).

Long story short, though, when booting from the usb the process failed at exactly the same point as when I was attempting a DVD boot (see the saga above).

I'm all out of ideas but thanks anyway for your help.
