We provide a warning with every kernel release, this is to avoid situations like this. We advise not to try installing these kernels unless you know what you're doing. At this point I would stop, you also have the Google key error in your terminal output, but that's a separate issue.

Thanks Jerry, I'll follow your advice and leave upgrading to a new kernel version well alone for now.
Should I now run sudo apt-get autoremove to remove any packages of kernel 4.7 & dependencies that may have downloaded or installed? 
The Lite Control Center indicates that Linux 3.13.0-93-generic is still the installed kernel.

You mention that there's a "google key error" in the terminal's output? What is this?  I use DuckDuckGo as my search engine (instead of Google), so I've not agreed to Google's terms and conditions - I don't know if that has anything to do with a google key error?
