Your system isn't too bad with some minimal upgrades - Looks like you have a PN121AA - HP Media Center m1180.uk Photosmart PC??
Which I got from your post
Code:
" Linuxlite@linuxlite-PN121AA-ABU-mll80-uk:$" What the hell am I supposed to do then?

Its specs here: https://h10057.www1.hp.com/ecomcat/hpcat...N121AA.htm
Shows 512mb ram upgrade-able to 4gb.. The 512 default may also be sharing some with the video card thus showing less system system ram. Not saying you have to max it out but 2gb would be a world of difference.

Bitsnpcs post will help with the keyboard errors...

Again following Jerry's suggestion there could many ifs where you may want to start fresh...

I think you're on the right track ... 8)

Your right about the computer I have & was very pleased with it being a media center pc before Microsoft pulled the plug on Windows XP.It's now pretty old & knackered & though I did consider adding more RAM even that proved a complicated bloody problem in practice.

What I really need is a replacement  Sad
