Update. Blew away persistent 8 gig usb linux lite 2.0 install.
Made up a new unetbootin linux lite 2.0 live usb.
Ran the installer.
No hiccups.
So all I can guess is that the persistent install somehow, which is a wonderment to me, got corrupted somehow.
The root file system should be read only but oh well. Stranger stuff happens when a usb may be improperly unmounted
which in my case could be a possibility. Even though the usb ran flawlessly on everything else. Anyways.
This install is done. You can put a fork in her.
Feedback on the new 3.16 kernel will go into the kernel thread. I'll post my screenshot in the other appropriate thread.

PS. The Touchscreen works out of the box.
