Was not aware that it was a non standard install

Jerry's post has several warnings and caveats which make it clear it is a risky and unsupported procedure.
Due respect to anyone (particularly a novice) trying it.

This may be the error message thrown by the failing update rather than Jerry's post.

So should i have simply asked if I could uninstall the Lupin-casper? or, should I be asking how to remove it from the system so the other casper can be installed?

It's not really a problem with wording a question. Even if the casper update conflict can be resolved (most things are possible), the system remains unsupported with potential for more latent problems to pop up.

what should I do now

Investigating the problem which prevented a fresh install of 6.x would be supported.
Otherwise, work on identifying and removing focal artefacts from the hybrid system.
