Hello!

XFCE 4.12 is like a freshly-baked dessert - one that needs to cool a little in the breeze before it's sliced and served.

For those who have joined the community recently, IF ALL GOES WELL, LL releases generally come about 2-3 months after Ubuntu LTS point releases. With a new XFCE version out the door as I type this, if LL 2.4 DOES try to incorporate XFCE 4.12, it would most likely require pushing back the 2.4 release date considerably, perhaps even and unacceptable amount of time.

As Jerry said, LL is heavily modified. To ensure full compatibility with the LL modifications, any and all updates must be (and seem to be) thoroughly tested by the development team. To add a new version of XFCE to the mix right now would require Jerry and his team to take a considerable amount of extra time to ensure the reliability and stability we've all come to expect here.

As a result, I don't expect to see an XFCE 4.12 LL before the release that follows 2.4 (2.6, I presume). Heck, for the record, I'm all for playing around with a 'razor' LL - with YOYO (you're on your own) support, of course...

One of the best analogies I've heard for integrating new packages to an existing system.
I would expect 4.12 to show up in 15.04 or even 16.04 and since we base off LTS, you're not likely to see 4.12 in LL until mid 2016. If you like to drink your wine fresh off the vines go for it, personally I prefer a matured vino.

LL needs to remain stable, and "new" updates to its components are at the discretion of its developers.
Why change something when it works just fine as it is. Updates and fixes are a different subject all together.
If i wanted bleeding edge i would be using a Debian testing/unstable distro, or any of the others available. XFCE may be improved, but how it interfaces with the OS/Kernel is a whole different bag of chips.

To quote- "XFCE 4.12 is like a freshly-baked dessert - one that needs to cool a little in the breeze before it's sliced and served."
best analogy I've heard to date in respect to Linux.

This is a good remark. I'm pointing out an issue that would be nice if it where fixed int the current LL 2.2 as well as in the next one.

Since in the current and next one light-locker seems to be installed. I found and am experiencing this bug : Invisible cursor after resume from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...ug/1297144

This needs to be adressed for sure. Hope someone has time for it.

Folks, I'd like to reiterate, if this turns into a support thread for installing 4.12 on our stable LL, there will be NO support.

Meh, if I want 4.12. I can make room for it. Just not on Linux Lite.
