Can't detect wireless network card
#1
I'm on a HP Pavillion notebook with having just replaced Windows Vista. I could use my wireless card no problem but with Linux it is not being detected. I think maybe it's the proprietary driver.

The card is a AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter um Qualcomm I think. If anyone knows how i can get it working I would be most grateful.

I had no problems with my dell laptop and L.L. but this HP *shakes head*

Hi,

Couple of things..
When I first installed on My HP TS15 laptop I thought I had no wireless..
Till I pressed my F12 key to turn it on. Do you have a F key with a Wireless(WiFi) symbol on it, or Wireless switch..??

Click on Menu, then type Drivers, click on Install Drivers, is anything listed or suggested..??

It will help if we could have more detail on your Laptop.
Open a terminal(Ctrl-Alt-t), then type:
Code:
inxi -F
Then highlight and copy the results back here using code tags [ code ]copy the text in between the tags[ /code ]
remove the spaces before and after the code and /code
It should look like this:
Code:

I have: Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter, and it works out of the box no drivers needed, on Acer aspire one netbook.

If it isn't the wireless switch, it may be the result of a corrupted download.  Did you check the md5 sum on the download page, if not that is where I would look next.

I think it might be some HP spooky magic. I had 0 problems putting this distro on a dell notebook. Also I tried Lubuntu and LXLE and had the same problem. No wireless network connectivity. Just grayed out.

posting this because inxi shows wlan0 enabled and driver loaded but wireless is down.

"
driver: ath5k
          IF: wlan0 state: down"

So your wireless is detected. Just not turned on.
