Optional Widget for Linux Lite 3.2
#1
I'm thinking of introducing an optional widget in Linux Lite 3.2 This won't run unless you want it to.

It will have very basic, minimal information. Something you can quick glance at.

Most importantly, it will contain a much desired update notification as seen in the screenshot.
The update function is purely informational, it cannot be clicked on, it serves as an important reminder to update your pc.
Memory use is around 17mb, with room for improvement.

Interested to hear feedback on this optional inclusion.

Like it... In keeping with the "Lite Ethos"

Without getting into the realms of the "other" desktop widget monitoring tools,
the only other thing that maybe useful at a glance "CPU Usage %"
otherwise  it's fine...

Interesting, Jerry. I would like to see it display temperature(s) and SSID - and have an X to dismiss it quickly.
Desktop: Running LL5 on second HD in ACEPC model MK1: "Mini PC 4GB RAM 64GB ROM Windows 10 Celeron J3455 Processor Mini Computer Dual HDMI, Support mSATA / 2.5 inches SSD/HDD 4K, Dual Band WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0". Don't normally use the supplied W10. Also use LL on netbook (Using xrandr to "expand" the screen) and various old laptops. NAS drive and web server hosted by Raspberry Pi's.

We don't want it to get too big, and displaying temps is not something we can do universally. There will be an option to Quit the application though.

Agree with Jerry...

If you want more widget stuff, check out Conky & gKrellm to name a couple...

I like it...  Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Thinking purely aesthetics/flow.. And just thoughts...

Could it be movable or place-able? Keeping simple; Top Left, Bottom Right.. etc...
Maybe a translucent background

Again keeping simple, at a glance and for sizing.. perhaps a flow similar to.. It may shrink the height somewhat...

As for info displayed - I like - is there anything (throw back to LLCC) that could be beneficial if it was captured as a screenshot.. Just thinking out loud... (example cpu type or ?)

I'm using conky... but a similar translucent look..??.. Let your backgrounds shine  Wink
