Representation on Diaspora
#1
I know Linux Lite is probably officially represented on Facebook, which is cool.  Maybe there's a fan page or something too.

But Facebook isn't the only social network, and lots of Linux-friendly folk hang out on Diaspora*, a privacy-respecting, open-source, federated social network.

With your permission, I'd like to create an "unofficial Linux Lite Fan Page" or something on Diaspora if you guys don't mind or if you don't have time to fuss around learning a whole 'nother social network.  You might reach a whole lot of new people there (I even brought one "Diasporian" to Linux Lite just from conversation).

Wha'd'y'think?

Go for it. Please give me the details so I can see how it evolves. Thank you.

Be sure to let us know the name of the pod (category)  when you have it set up, Robin.

Yay!  Linux Lite's "unofficial" Fan Page on Diaspora can be found by searching "[email protected]" (without quotes).

The profile and all posts are public.  I chose that pod because it links to Facebook, so that anything shared on the Linux Lite Facebook Page can be copied to the Diaspora page as well.  I can't set that up without the account info for that Facebook account, but if you decide to manage the account yourself, Jerry (or designated representative), you can link it to the Facebook page and reach abuncha more people!

Thanks, but I couldn't find it. Pardon my ignorance, but
do you have to become a member to see the page?

I should be visible to anyone on the Internet.  The Diaspora ID reads like an e-mail address, but put it in quotes and enter it in a search engine.  It should take you to the page.  Much easier to join a Diaspora pod though, and follow [email protected]

Well it looks like the whatsnewz pod has lost federation for the last four days, and the "podmin" (server administrator) hasn't even noticed.  I may migrate the account to another pod (server) that is more reliable.  If/when I do I'll post the URL here.

Or if you prefer, Jerry, you can create an official Linux Lite page on a reliable pod (I suggest joindiaspora.com) and I'll just delete the "unofficial" one.  Let me know, k?
