iwconfig "no wireless extensions" Netgear WG511v2

I'm trying to give my uncle's old laptop a new life with LinuxLite (love it!) but his Netgear WG511v2 PCMCIA wireless card has been the last piece of the puzzle I can't get to work.

The driver for the card with the Marvell chip is installed, I followed the steps at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDo...diswrapper but when I got to iwconfig, I get:

I updated the wireles-info above to show the actual output of the script (I'm half asleep after work doing this project). I see a lot of solved cases so I know it can be done but the hardware is different so I thought I'd ask specifically about this setup.

Well, that explains why it didn't look like the results other people got. Why did that happen?

Hi, there's no switch, but the laptop has the ethernet cable plugged in. Would that make a difference?

You're probably unaccustomed to running linux scripts, so let's keep this simple.

Without any background in running bash scripts, you are MUCH better off spending $5 - $10 on a linux compatible wireless card from eBay, then your wireless will run on most distros out-of-the-box without the need for any drivers.

This chipset must be set up with bash commands, there is no other way as it is unsupported in linux to this day.

I'm not sure your info is right about the Marvell chipset. These devices were most often Intersil chipped. If so the device firmware downloader and utilities and documentation for prism stuff are available in Synaptic. Type intersil in the search box to find them.
