[SOLVED] Lunatic is having problems booting after installing
#1
This is happening to me on two machines both AMD, ATI boxes.

With 32 bit
Standard install nothing strange and I've tried with putting the grub in the root and into the MBR but when I boot all I get in the grub menu is
Code:
Description: (on /dev/sdc6)
/boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic (on /dev/sdc6)
Description: (on /dev/sdc6)
/boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic (on /dev/sdc6)
Description: (on /dev/sdc6)
/boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic (on /dev/sdc6)
The duplicate lines are a grub2 bug but it don't boot off either option.

The 64 bit version boots OK  but I prefer using 32 bit.

There's no rush but there's a reward on offer

I've tried multiple DVD's, checked the md5 and tried on different HDD's

Well shoot bro. Where is the inxi report on the 64 bit system that boots.

You may be dyslexic or some big word.

But you cannot convince me you are stupid.
PS. I am not a team member here and I hope you know I am playing around.

Sh*t man why not make my life easier by telling me the parameters that you add to inxi, have I got to ask but I also said it's happening on 2 machines, one a triple core the other a quad

To do what you ask I've gotto go in the terminal even the word is scary at least MS call it some thing less scary like command line, if theres a need for this why aint there something in the bl**dy menu to click on, it's bad enough having to learn to use a menu, ask your average windows user if they ever use the start button and they'll give you a funny look, windows apps put a nice friendly launcher on the desktop that we use. Linux is so primitive for a user.

I'm not in any hurry but they need to tell me how to get the info they need, I use machines so I have little tec knowledge,
I use a file manager alot so when it keeps asking me for a bl**dy password everytime I click on  different folder it p*sses me off big time.
No other 14.04 distro I have tried does this they just mount and display the partition, ther was one guy posted who was having problems with his scripts abd I think it might have been down to this permissions business.

He's done an amazing job shoehorning 14.04 into a CD and he's attracted a very loyal crowd to himself and his creation.

My biggest beef with all the Debian installers is that they totally ignore the partition labeling, you prepare the partitions and then the installer reformats and zaps the labels. With Arch and opensuse which I don't use, the installer displays the property defaulting to the OS name which you can change.

Anthony Nordquist rewrote the remastersys installer and I asked him to add the property and got the answer "no not never" so I said no more but when he added his grub-docter where you have to pick a partition to write the grub for it gave me the chance to bring it up again so I posted a pic of grub-doctor alongside a shot of gparted, grub-doctor showed you sda1, sda2 etc gparted showed the labels, two days later he released an update and he went back to his installer and added the labels there and used them when he wrote saline-backup.

I think saline-backup would save you some time installing a standard OS on your notebooks bro. I will get it together but I've been sleeping every other night for the last six days but I think I'll be sleeping tonight for the second night in a row. I ran out of the sacred herb four days ago so without any medication.

Ikey got a touchscreen laptop so he could develop his Budgie DE for them it might be good on your notebooks, he also goes for intel graphics for Linux.
He also got a blueray writer to develop with and a TV so he has duel screens to develop for or test with.

Your trying to p*ss me off with those linky pics, I show you a perfect panel, just a little stubby thing in the corner so that if you set the panel propert "Don't reserve space on borders" you will have a full screen browser with the panel on top but hiding a small bit in the bottom right corner, surely you need the full depth of the screen for a browser without losing all that panel space on the bottom.

I made something like 1500 post there, I very much doubt I made 25 posts on any other forum before or since.

I have no excess real estate showing while browsing on this small itty bitty touchscreen. My slit is on autohide.  Wink

ukbrian,

Do you have any other Linux distro installed on the computers with LL?  If so, what order were they installed in and do you remember where you directed boot loader installation for 32-bit LL?  Also, are the other distros 64-bit or 32-bit?  (You can run uname -a in a terminal under each distro to find that out.)

Or

Are/(Were) both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of LL installed on same computers at same time (a dual-boot setup)?  If so, what order were they installed in and do you remember where you directed boot loader installation for the 32-bit LL?

Since it sounds like you did a bit of experimenting, just give quick summary of exactly what is currently installed on computer now.  List distro name, version #, and whether 32-bit or 64-bit.  Tell if any of them are bootable and working at this particular moment.

Are you using a live DVD or a live USB?  If USB, which program did you use to make the live USB?

Did you confirm that the md5sum of the LL ISO file matches the one shown on the download page?
